[OOYH] Week 08 Summary

13/11/23
List of potential ending ideas

We spent today finalising parts of the overall film, although most of it was thinking about the ending. Individually, we all spent around 10-15 minutes writing down our own ideas. I unfortunately don’t have my list, although I did write down everyone’s ideas.

We figured out what ending we wanted to go for by the end of today’s workshop. The main story has the man being drawn towards the carousel after he’s transported, which then slows to a stop after he approaches and ends up next to a horse with closed eyes. The other horses have their eyes open, which drift to look at him. After touching the horse with closed eyes, the man transforms into that one, and then the carousel (with the rest of the funfair) continues to operate. (Documented by Violet as version 4)

We managed to get our story green lit by today, the end of the second week since OOYH launched. As this took a bit of time (final tweaks, explaining to different tutors, etc), and that we finish at 4pm on Fridays, the rest of the workshop afterwards was spent on getting a head start on designs.

Violet also made a shortened version of her documents about our story.

WEEKEND

In the shortened version of our story, Clara and I made animatics for the 3D section. She focused on what the man would be doing after being transported, whilst I looked at ending ideas (after transforming into a carousel horse).

v1 – Violet’s idea. As the starts up again, it fades into an establishing shot of the whole funfair still operating.

v2 – The shot of the carousel transitions into being what the viewfinder shows, then fades into a less-close-up shot of the camera back in the black and white world.

v3 – Evelyn’s idea. Similar to v2, except the shot of the carousel transitions into being a reflection in the camera lens. The camera is in the black and white world too.
