[Monochrome] Week 02 Summary

19.02.24 – Things that talk and paper-based animation (fin.)

During today’s workshop, we looked into the materials around us and their potential when animating. We were prompted to create a short test based on this, where we weren’t allowed to animate through drawings. I was going to try animating a piece of paper folding and unfolding itself to create a square through creases. Unfortunately, the lighting in the room changed during this, so I scrapped what I made so far and then moved onto light.

Earlier today, we followed a short demonstration where we all scrunched pieces of paper and used them to create a boil. I used one of these papers to have light passing through over it as I thought the scrunched texture would provide an interesting surface for this test, given the many creases.

21.02.24 – studio practice exploration & testing

This was our first workshop where we were left to start tests by ourselves. I was stuck on what I wanted, so I made a list of potential ideas that I liked, whether it were materials I preferred, or films I could find inspiration from.

I focused on charcoal for today, and tried various methods that I could use when animating, such as creating negative space by drawing the subject matter/around the subject matter. My only shot of the day was a charcoal circle expanding.

23.02.24 – sound & studio practice exploration & testing

We were shown how to use an H4N recorder if we were to book it out and make our own audio. Sebastian, Fangjin and I went out to record 3 minutes of sound.
