[Monochrome] Week 04 Summary

04.03.24 – psycho-geographical maps

We spent today’s workshop walking from the university to around South Bank whilst learning about various buildings throughout the route from Chris. Afterwards when we had made our way back to campus, we made a ‘map’ of the walk. Chris asked us to avoid making a conventional map, and instead do something more illustrative. We were supplied with cups of ink, skewer stick and q-tips.

I drew the route mainly from memory; it’s more accurate at the beginning, but improvised near the end. Surrounding the route, I doodled anything that I remembered as we were talking. Example, we saw a cup mascot sometime near the beginning, and again when walking back passing through the same area.

The set-up

I made another test using white pastel dusted on a clear plastic sheet. I was thinking of having the circle move around on real, surrounding surfaces. However, I can’t draw on walls in the university, so I used the sheet instead. The test is a lot more zoomed in as you can see due to the reflections seen on the plastic.

weekend

To prepare for next week, I made a rough animation of how I want my final film to look like on FlipaClip. I have ideas on what mediums I want for different sections based off the tests I’ve done, but nothing too concrete aside from the section with a book flipping pages and plastic sheet.
